Learn to Chant Torah

Join Cantor Sarah Myerson for weekly Torah chanting classes. You’ll be chanting Torah with joy before you know it!

Building Blocks: Beginner Level Six-Week Course

Mondays, April 4-May 9
6:30-7:30pm via Zoom
kanestreet.org/torah-online
and/or
Thursdays, April 7-May 12
5:30-6:30pm in the Choir Loft

We’ll learn a method for turning those squiggly markings in and around the Hebrew text into easily identifiable music symbols, and we’ll work on chanting simple Torah verses from each week’s Torah parashah (portion). The Building Blocks six-week course is perfect for beginners who have never studied Torah trope (cantillation), as well as those who might have learned some trope a long time ago and want to start afresh.

By the end of this six-week course, participants will be able to prepare a short aliyah, and will be encouraged to participate in Spring or Summer Shabbat morning services!

The same class content will be taught on both Monday and Thursday evenings each week, so come to either or both sessions. Mondays via Zoom (kanestreet.org/chant-torah); Thursdays in person in the Choir Loft. If requested, the Monday April 11 Zoom session may be recorded for Board members.
