The Mensch Squad

The Mensch Squad is a Kane Street initiative, which organizes members of our community to support one another in times of need.

It works like this: When a member is ill, homebound, bereaved, or otherwise in need of assistance, s/he contacts the Mensch Squad coordinator, who then sends a message to Squad members. Requests may be made, for example, to provide meals, pay a visit, pick up a pharmacy order, or whatever else is required.

We invite all of our members to join the Mensch Squad. There is no specific commitment, but if you volunteer, your name will be added to the Mensches mailing┬álist and you will receive an email whenever the coordinator gets a request for help. You might be asked to cook a meal, purchase some groceries, or drive someone to the doctor. If you’re available and willing, respond, and a coordinator will connect you with the person in need, or provide the necessary instructions.

To join the Mensch Squad volunteers, please contact Mensch Squad volunteer coordinator Julia Hirsch, and don’t forget to include your phone numbers.

If you or your family are in need of support, also contact the Mensch Squad coordinator. If you prefer, you may first contact Rabbi Samuel H. Weintraub.
