Lisa K. Kleinman — 170th Anniversary Honoree
The Congregation honors Lisa Kleinman at our Anniversary Gala on June 11, and in our 170th Anniversary Commemorative Journal for her decades of service to the Synagogue as the leader of our Ritual Committee, chair of the Clergy Search Committees, and for her many contributions to our community.

Ritual Leader
Lisa Kleinman has been a member of Kane Street since 1983. She is a familiar face to all who have attended services at Kane Street. In addition to being an exceptional Torah, Haftarah and megillot reader, davening leader, and honors gabbai, Lisa has worked tirelessly behind the scenes as head of the Ritual Committee and co-chair of several clergy search committees, including the search that found Rabbi Michelle Dardashti in 2022.
Lisa’s commitment to Jewish institutions extends beyond Kane Street. She is a founder of The Senesh School, where she has served as board chair and is currently a trustee. Professionally, she is a marketing consultant and freelance copywriter for Jewish nonprofit organizations, including JewishColumbus, UJA-Federation of New York, JFNA, and The New Jewish Home. She is the author of the book “The Last Surviving Relative: A History of Selfhelp Community Services,” published in 2025. She lives in Carroll Gardens with her husband Ralph, a past president of Kane Street Synagogue and current financial secretary. They have three adult sons—Jacob, Roger, and Elliot—all of whom became Bar Mitzvah at Kane Street.
