Remember the Departure and Expulsion of Jews from Arab Countries and Iran

Two years ago, the Israeli Knesset voted to establish a day for Jews the world over to mark the departure and expulsion of Jews from the Arab Countries and Iran. November 30 was chosen since it follows November 29, the day in 1947 when the UN adopted the Partition Plan for Palestine. Following this vote, which recognized Jewish control over part of Palestine, Jews in Arab countries and Iran experienced great hostility. About 850,000, from Morocco to Iran, left their homelands for Israel and countries all over the world.
We will mark this modern Jewish Exodus by hearing from several Kane Street congregants from Sephardic and Mizrahi backgrounds. There will be time for questions and answers. A special Kiddush luncheon will feature Middle Eastern cuisine. Please do not make separate plans for lunch that Shabbat, but join us to dine together, and then remember and honor historic Jewish communities.
